The Magic of Words

Have you ever considered the magic mere words can have when strung together in a novel? I don’t necessarily mean the sorcery or witchcraft in a supernatural or fantasy story.

I’m referring to the feeling you get from a good book, whether it’s happiness, wonder, surprise, or whatever the emotion.

Most people read fiction because they want to experience something from the story.

Many readers love getting swept away to another place and time. Maybe it’s the excitement of seeing a hero or heroine overcome insurmountable odds. Or perhaps you like twists and turns and shocking surprises.

I enjoy all those, but as a storyteller, I read for inspiration from another author’s writing style.

Words can be magical if used correctly. In a good novel, they evoke just the correct response from the reader. But writing well is more challenging than it sounds.

A novelist makes countless decisions when crafting a story, such as the pacing, dialogue, narration, showing rather than telling, character development, etc.… I can list dozens of elements the writer must juggle when developing a tale.

And when all these individual elements are correctly combined, the result is a true masterpiece. It’s possible that the book may not become a bestseller because sales are often dependent on marketing and promotions (which I’ll possibly discuss one day in another post). But to you, it’s worth every penny and deserves a five-star rating.

I am somewhat biased, but purchasing a book is one of the most inexpensive forms of entertainment. A good story provides many hours of enjoyment and relaxation.

And it’s all due to the simple magic of words.

Amazing!
