A Summertime Update

The above picture was taken in my backyard, where the flowers are looking fabulous. As for my writing, I am nearly done editing my third novel, Elthea’s Paradox.

This one has taken me longer than the others. Yet, as a good friend explained, “Once published, nobody will compliment you on how rapidly you finished it. Every book is judged on its quality.”

Editing can be both exciting and frustrating. Exciting because this is the point where I massage the storyline to make it shine and easier to read. No reader wants to trip over sentences throughout a book, and this is where I polish those rough edges. It’s frustrating because, well, good writing is hard. I can spend hours reworking a short passage over and over again.

I still have more work on Elthea’s Paradox before it’s available. My editor and first readers will review and comment on it, and I’ll commission a cover design. I’m reluctant to provide a firm date on availability, but I’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, here in New England, summertime is at its peak, and I have taken time to enjoy the warm weather and to spend time with my daughter, who has been visiting for a few weeks. We all need time to unwind, and I hope you have found ways to enjoy yourself during this time of year, wherever you call home.

Here are pictures my daughter took of our flower gardens. Before I became a writer, gardening was my passion. I still make time to tend the plants, but not as much as previously.

I feel lucky to be able to enjoy life and work through this time of Covid-19. Many out there are struggling. I hope our existence soon returns to normal, and this tumult will be a bad memory.

How are you staying sane during this pandemic? I enjoy hearing what others are reading or watching on TV. Let me know how you are continuing to remain connected to the world. As for me, my latest reading tome is Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings. I’m about 80% finished, and I’ll post a positive review on Goodreads when I have completed it.

Thanks for reading my latest post. Until next time.
